Merchants Insurance Group is pleased to announce that Tim Smith has been named the new Regional Underwriting Manager of the company’s Midlantic Regional Office (Mount Laurel, NJ).
He will assume the Regional Underwriting Manager position from John Iannello, who will retire as of May 28th, 2021.
Mr. Smith has extensive experience working with both national and regional property – casualty insurance companies, in a variety of Claims, Marketing and Underwriting roles. Most recently he functioned as a Senior Territory Manager, focused on working with agents in New Jersey and Pennsylvania writing and retaining middle – market accounts.
In his new role, he will lead underwriting operations for Merchants’ Midlantic Regional Office by cultivating relationships with agencies representing the company, as well as internal colleagues and staff. Mr. Smith is responsible for the development of underwriting staff by providing mentoring and direction. He’s also responsible for contributing to the attainment of regional goals and objectives, including loss ratio and production goals, through effective plan execution; contributing to product development initiatives; and assuring high quality Loss Control and Premium Audit Service.
Mr. Smith holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Stockton University in Pomona, NJ, as well. Mr. Smith also served as member of the Lenape Valley Regional High Board of Education for a number of years.
