On Saturday, October 18, 2025, a group of Merchants colleagues and guests joined hundreds of teams from across Western New York to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Buffalo.

This year’s event took participants on a 3-mile walk along Buffalo’s Outer Harbor, raising over $290,000 to support breast cancer research, patient services, caregiver support, and survivorship programs.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events are held in more than 150 communities across the country, making this the largest and most impactful breast cancer movement in the U.S.

“The Making Strides walk is always full of energy, emotion, and incredible strength,” said Charles E. Makey, III, President and Chief Executive Officer of Merchants Insurance Group.

“Cancer has touched so many lives – whether it’s a colleague, a loved one, or a survivor. I’m proud of Team Merchants for showing up and supporting this important cause together.”

At this year’s event, Merchants Insurance Group sponsored the Strides Merch Store, where participants could purchase a variety of Making Strides merchandise to show their support for the cause.
