Merchants Insurance Group has been named on Buffalo Business First’s annual “Best Places to Work in Western New York” list for the third consecutive year.
“Best Places to Work in Western New York” finalists were determined based on the results of an anonymous employee survey conducted by Buffalo Business First in the fall of 2024. The survey measured employee engagement in six categories:
- Communication
- Employee needs
- Manager effectiveness
- Personal engagement
- Team dynamic
- Trust in leadership.
Companies to achieve the highest scores on the anonymous survey were deemed “Best Places to Work in Western New York.”
“This distinction is particularly special to us, as it was determined by our colleagues and reflects how they feel about our company,” stated Merchants Insurance Group President and Chief Executive Officer Charles E. Makey, III. “It’s a testament to the collaborative culture that makes Merchants a fantastic place to work each day – and because of that great culture our entire team has created together, we’re able to provide better service to our independent agent partners and policyholders.”
The 2025 list includes 67 companies headquartered in the Western New York region. Merchants Insurance Group, headquartered in downtown Buffalo, New York, was one of just four companies of its size (250-799 employees) recognized.

Merchants will join other finalists at Buffalo Business First’s annual Best Places to Work and HR Impact Awards celebratory event on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Buffalo RiverWorks.
