Merchants Insurance Group Appoints Lori Moore as Vice President, Chief Actuary
Merchants Insurance Group, a Super Regional Property Casualty Company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Lori Moore to Vice President, Chief Actuary at the company’s corporate headquarters in Buffalo, New York, effective June 2025.
Ms. Moore’s career in the insurance industry spans three decades. Prior to joining Merchants, she spent nine years at Encova Insurance, where she served in a variety of actuarial leadership roles, such as: Vice President, Corporate Actuarial; Assistant Vice President, Corporate Actuarial; and Director of Actuarial Transformation. Throughout her 31-year career, she has worked with carriers such as Allstate Insurance, Farmers Insurance, Nationwide, and State Auto Insurance.

As Vice President, Chief Actuary, Ms. Moore will oversee the company’s actuarial operations and play a key role in strategic planning.

Ms. Moore earned her Bachelor of Science in mathematics at the University of Akron, located in Akron, Ohio. She is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
Ms. Moore currently resides in Columbus, Ohio. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, kayaking, watching movies, and discovering new food with her husband and spending time with her sons. She looks forward to working in Buffalo, stating, “Buffalo feels like an excellent part-time complement [to Columbus] with its own rich history and vibrant community.”
