Merchants Insurance Group has been recognized on Buffalo Business First’s 2026 Best Places to Work in Western New York list, marking the fourth consecutive year the company has earned this distinction.

Finalists for the “Best Places to Work in Western New York” are determined through an anonymous employee survey conducted each fall by Buffalo Business First. The survey assesses employee engagement across key cultural areas, including communication, employee needs, manager effectiveness, personal engagement, team dynamic, and trust in leadership. Organizations receiving the highest scores are deemed Western New York’s Best Places to Work.

“This honor means a great deal to us because it comes directly from our colleagues, the very people who help shape our culture and make Merchants an exceptional place to work,” said Merchants Insurance Group President and Chief Executive Officer Charles E. Makey III. “This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a collaborative, supportive workplace where our team can thrive and deliver outstanding service to our independent agent partners and policyholders.”

Among the 67 Western New York companies on this year’s list, Merchants Insurance Group – headquartered in downtown Buffalo – was one of four organizations in its size category (X-Large, 250-599 employees).
