Merchants Mutual Insurance Company is pleased to announce that Michael J. Murray has been named to its Board of Directors.
Mr. Murray is a retired Managing Partner for the Upstate New York practice of Ernst & Young, an international accounting and advisory firm. As an audit partner, he was responsible for engagements for public and large private clients for over two decades. During his tenure he assisted clients with implementing and monitoring corporate governance programs and systems of internal control, led engagements to institute financial reporting and control programs, and performed due diligence assignments to help clients analyze and negotiate acquisitions.
Mr. Murray is on the Board of Directors of Chapin Manufacturing Inc., a private manufacturing company located in Batavia, New York, and chairs its Audit and Compensation Committees, and is a member of its Executive and Strategic Planning Committees. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Health System of Western New York (CHS), a healthcare organization consisting of five hospitals, long term care facilities, homecare and clinics, and physician organizations in Western New York. At CHS, Mr. Murray is Chair of the Audit and Physicians Enterprise Committees, and a member of the Finance and Operations Committee.
He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council of the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Management, and a founder and member of the UB Council of Accountancy. He previously served on the boards of St. Mary’s School for the Deaf, Shea’s Performing Arts Center and the University at Buffalo Alumni Association.
Mr. Murray earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a Masters in Business Administration from UB. He resides in Hamburg, New York.
