Patricia Ruhland, CPA, Named Assistant Vice President-Controller for Merchants Insurance Group Merchants Insurance Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Patricia Ruhland, CPA, Controller, to Assistant Vice President-Controller.

Ms. Ruhland began working with Merchants in 2011 as Accounting Operations Manager and was then promoted to Assistant Controller in 2012, and finally to Controller in 2020 before this promotion.

In her new position as Assistant Vice President-Controller, Ms. Ruhland will participate in management strategic planning meetings, annual reinsurance renewal sessions, AM Best presentations and board committee meetings.

“Patty has made significant contributions to the company from a financial reporting, process improvement and operational aspect,” said Christine Schmitt, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. “She has utilized her excellent analytical, computer and technical accounting skills to improve company efficiencies and profitability.”

Before joining Merchants, Ms. Ruhland was the controller for a local manufacturing company and had also worked several years in local public accounting firms.

Ms. Ruhland holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business from State University of New York at Buffalo with concentrations in Accounting, Finance and Management Information Systems. She is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Ms. Ruhland and her husband live in Hamburg with their two dogs. She serves as a dog enrichment volunteer with the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.
