Merchants Insurance Group is proud to announce that former corporate vice president, Margaret Kafka, has been named as Medaille College’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.
Ms. Kafka retired from Merchants in December 2016, after more than 45 years of service to the insurance company.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to “a certified alum who has performed with distinction at the highest levels of his or her profession; and who has contributed in a significant and impactful way to the advancement and leadership of noteworthy civic, philanthropic or service organizations. Those alumni honored by this award have brought distinction to Medaille and the greater community through their persistent professional, community and/or philanthropic achievements,” per the college.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from the college and has served in various capacities on the college’s board of trustees. Merchants Insurance Group recently established the Marge Kafka/Merchants Insurance Scholarship, which is given to an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in mental health counseling at Medaille.
