United Way Day of Caring 2023
June 21, 2023 marked the return of one of Merchants’ favorite ways to give back to the community: United Way Day of Caring!
Each year, this single-day volunteer event encourages companies to participate in community service projects around the region. This year was the first Day of Caring since before the COVID-19 pandemic, and Merchants colleagues were excited for the opportunity to take part in this day of service once again!
“It was great to see Merchants colleagues come together to participate in the 2023 United Way Day of Caring,” said Christopher Brown, Senior Corporate Claim Manager – Compliance & Quality Control and Chair of Merchants’ United Way Campaign (with Rachel Reid, Team Leader Support Center) at our corporate office.
On Day of Caring, colleagues were broken into two shifts — morning and afternoon — to volunteer their time at two local organizations.
Morning Session: OLV Human Services
A group of colleagues spent the morning at OLV Human Services.
Located in Lackawanna, NY, OLV Human Services provides a variety of community-based services, including residential, mental health, education, and dental care.
“OLV Human Services strives to prepare, support, and empower individuals to achieve their life goals.”
Volunteers helped plant around the campus.
Afternoon Session: Ronald McDonald House
The second group of volunteers spent the afternoon at Ronald McDonald House Charities of WNY.
“The mission of RMHC of WNY is to create and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families.”
Located on West Ferry St. in Buffalo, NY, this organization provides housing and a series of support programs to families during times of medical distress.
Merchants colleagues worked together to beautify the grounds, weed pathways, and clean indoors at the Ronald McDonald House.
“I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the Ronald McDonald House including how this organization provides support to families in crisis,” said Chris Brown. “It was extremely gratifying to help spruce up their gardens and complete interior cleaning.”
Support for United Way
Merchants Insurance Group is proud to support United Way and its impact on our local communities. In addition to participating in Day of Caring, Merchants colleagues contribute to important United Way initiatives across our regions each year through e-pledge donations and fundraising events during our annual United Way campaign.
