As Featured in The Standard: Why Carrier/Agency Partnerships Matter More Than Ever in Today’s Insurance Landscape
Merchants Insurance Group was recently featured in The Standard, a New England based insurance newsmagazine, in the publication’s Salute to Independent Agents issue. Merchants’ Senior Content Marketing Specialist Katherine Trautwein contributed an article titled “Why Carrier/Agency Partnerships Matter More Than Ever in Today’s Insurance Landscape.”
Each year, the Salute to Independent Agents issue of The Standard features articles written for the benefit of and in celebration of independent insurance agents. The 2026 edition was published on April 17, 2026.
In her article, Trautwein explores the evolving role of carrier and agency collaboration in the modern insurance industry, highlighting the value of strategic partnerships.
“Now more than ever, a merely transactional dynamic between carriers and independent agents is not sufficient,” writes Trautwein. “Success depends on true partnership, including shared strategy, transparency and mutual investment in long-term outcomes.”
By partnering exclusively with independent agents, Merchants Insurance Group has long valued the strength of the independent agency channel and the important role agencies play in servicing their clients. That commitment to collaboration was recently reflected in Merchants being named Big I New York’s Commercial Lines Carrier of the Year, an honor voted on by independent agents themselves. Meaningful partnerships, as Trautwein outlines in The Standard, remain an essential part in delivering quality service and long-term stability for policyholders and communities alike.
