Merchants Insurance Group Promotes Megan Hagner to Director, Corporate Actuary
Merchants Insurance Group has announced the promotion of Megan Hagner to Director, Corporate Actuary, effective February 2026.
Hagner brings 12 years of experience at Merchants to her expanded leadership role. She joined the company in 2013 as an Actuarial Analyst I and was subsequently promoted to Actuarial Analyst II and Associate Corporate Actuary before being named Corporate Actuary.
During her tenure, Hagner earned the Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation and became the leader of Merchants’ Reserving team. She has served as the primary representative of the Actuarial Department to the company’s external actuarial, auditing, and reinsurance broker partners.
“Megan has demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, strategic insight, and a deep understanding of our risk and capital framework,” said Charles E. Makey III, President and Chief Executive Officer of Merchants Insurance Group. “In this officer-level role, she will play a critical part in strengthening our financial stewardship and advancing our long-term growth strategy. I am confident that Megan’s leadership and actuarial acumen will continue to drive value for our policyholders, agents, and partners.”
In 2025, Hagner assumed additional responsibilities during the company’s search for a Vice President, Chief Actuary, becoming a key contributor at Senior Leadership and Board of Directors meetings.

As Director, Corporate Actuary, Hagner will continue to lead the Reserving team and oversee key actuarial initiatives, ensuring strong financial stewardship and alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.

Hagner earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree, both in Mathematics, from the State University of New York at Brockport. She was the recipient of Merchants Insurance Group’s 2022 President’s Award and a member of the inaugural class of the company’s Leadership Development Program, graduating in 2025.
